SECRET BACKSTORY
Leo grew up in a doomsday cult dedicated to the Kaisen god, Kaiserod Adjor (god of authority, sky, smithing). They believe that Erod will return imminently to complete his campaign to unite the lands; they conceive of him as an authoritarian conqueror. The leader of the cult was a woman named Tasia who, as far as Leo knows, was a true believer who led her group with a combination of threats of impending doom, social pressure and shame, and lovebombing. The cult ran a farm in order to feed themselves; on rare occasions members of the cult went into the village to trade wares.

As a child, Leo preferred to avoid the attention of the adults by studying astronomy and star charts or spending time with the farm animals. he learned that being quiet and agreeable tended to yield the best results. There were a handful of kids in the cult, but they were raised communally, without knowing who their biological parents were. They all considered each other siblings. Leo was especially close to his "brother," Niall.

About three years ago, Leo became disillusioned with the fact that Tasia was a) a jerk and b) probably a fraud given that she kept predicting a doomsday that never came. He decided to leave. Niall encountered him as he left and they got into an argument that escalated into a physical fight, which ended with Leo shoving Niall over a cliff. Leo isn't sure if Niall died or not, but assumes he did and considers himself a murderer as a result. Leo ran.

PUBLIC BACKSTORY
Leo tells people that he grew up on a farm, that his family is all dead, and that he's been running his own little farm. He wasn't very good at it, which is why he's now mercenary-ing.
